Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 has my vote right now:
Any of you guys got one? Or shot one?
I see them at the shooting range all the time and I could really use a tacticool 22, so...
Also in the running for possible consideration:
Ruger SR-22:
Colt M4-22:
Sig 522:

No experience shooting or owning one of them. The S&W looks pretty sweet, but then again, they all do. _________________ We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall, all hang separately!

For each one, Google "problems" and get the negitives, then do "reviews" and get the possitives. Since I have the Sig, I can say I'm wowed with the feeding of all types of ammo. I haven't gotten out to do a range review of accuarcy, but have thrown some good groups with the red dot sight. Mags for the sig are plentiful (meaning you can find them everywhere) since they are for a couple of different systems.
What I don't like about the Sig are:
1. The stock is a little "loose". They could have tightened it up a bit.
2. To put iron sights on it, is spendy. Since the sights are the same ones for the 556. So your looking at $200+. I'm going too keep my eyes open for an after market for less, which should be out before too long. With the way these have been selling, I'm sure UTG or another will fill the void!
Now the S&W would be my next choice, and they come with sights. However, I don't like the fact that only S&W is the only manufactor of their mags. Again, check the reviews. There has been discussion about this. Very light as well. 4 lbs., I believe!! The forearm is all "railed" out, so extras will have a place. But feels like a porky pine.
I do like the Ruger. And would consider it, also. A well know system, and parts are readily avalible. The one I picked up, felt very nice!! Don't be too quick too pass it by. The only one I saw for sale at the show was $519. The Sig I picked up was $465. That's why I went with it. If the price was the same, I may have had a Ruger instead.
The colt.....don't waste your money on a name!! And it's still/just a .22.....
Have fun with your search!! And start shopping for .22 ammo, you'll be have fun, throwing lead down range!! ( oh yeah, and mags!! Lots of mags!!) _________________ Remington 597M Simmons 4-12x40 AO

I guess they would be alright to shoot. But I can't see hunting squirrel or rabbits with any of these. Give me my Ruger 10/22 or my Browning semi-auto take down. I guess I'm just not tacti-cool! |

Out of the choices you gave I would put them in this order
1 Sig
2 Ruger
3 S&W
4 Colt
I would also throw in the Marlin 597 Tactical. I'm not sure exactly what they call it, but I looked at one in Gander Mountian and it was nice. you can get 30rd mags for $19.99 all day long. If I remeber right it was under $300.
If it were me, I would opt for an AR with a 22lr upper. They are a little more $$$, but you have so many more options. |

Tilt, are you talking about the Remington 597?

Big Dave you can also take a Ruger 10/22 and turn it into a tactical. I did that with mine. It's still a tack driver, just looks different than most target guns.
Tapco stocks come in FD earth, OD green, and black. This one is FD earth.
I might put a red dot on it sometime, just to see what it can do. _________________ Rob

At the end of this month, a group of us are going up too the mountains to shoot. I have 16 different loads. Function, and accuracy will be recorded. As well as a whole lot of lead down range!!
I now have a total of 9 mags, a Center Point 4-16x40 scope, and a red/green dot optic, too play with! I'm taking other guns with me, but this one will probibly be the most used one! _________________ Remington 597M Simmons 4-12x40 AO
